Core Features

Bring joy and companion to your daily workspace routine.

Infinite Customization (Dress-up)

Register your own illustrations or favorite character frames inside the app. Easily swap styles and set sequence images for actions like walking, jumping, sleeping, and dragging.

Chat with your choice of 3 AIs

Pick the AI that fits you: Gemini in the cloud (API key required), Ollama running locally on your Mac, or on-device Apple Intelligence (no API key, on supported Macs). Voice input is supported, and you can revisit past chats from history.

VOICEVOX Speech Support

Integrate with the external VOICEVOX speech synthesis engine via local API to give your companion a beautiful custom anime voice. Standard high-quality macOS system voices are also supported.

Help & Manual

Learn how to customize your mascot's appearance, set up AI connections, and tune up the voice engine.

Basic Operations & Pointer Tracking

Mascots wander relaxing on your desktop and accompany your work routine.

  • Drag & Drop: When pointer tracking is turned off, you can drag and relocate the mascot anywhere on your screens.
  • Click for Chatting: Click the mascot (or select via status menu) to toggle the chat UI. Text input and speech recognition are fully supported.
  • Right-Click Menu: Right-clicking the mascot launches a menu to enter Settings, toggle tracking, or exit the application.
  • Saved conversation history: Use the icon at the top-right of the chat window to save and revisit your past AI conversations.

โš™๏ธ Behaviors and Window Positions

Customize the core behaviors in the Settings panel.

Always on Top

When enabled, the mascot stays pinned above all other system windows. Disable this to let the mascot behave like a standard window that hides behind active browsers or text editors.

Pointer Tracking

When enabled, the mascot will walk across your screen aiming at your mouse cursor. Turn this off to make the mascot stay still.

โœจ [New Feature] Instant Tracking: Instantly starts tracking pointer coordinates on app launch without needing manual clicks, operating smoothly in active and background modes (high-precision polling system).

Wander Mode

When Wander Mode is on, the mascot will stroll around your desktop on a whim. The walking speed is the same as the mouse tracking speed. You can easily toggle it anytime via the Settings panel or the mascot's right-click context menu ("Start Wandering" / "Stop Wandering").

Intelligent Pause During Chats

โœจ [New Feature]: Mouse tracking automatically pauses whenever the Chat Window is active to avoid misclicks. Closing the chat UI automatically resumes mouse tracking seamlessly.

Spontaneous Talk (Time & System Events)

Mascots will voluntarily speak to you based on time thresholds or system state changes:

  • Morning & Late Night Greetings: Offers cozy greetings in the morning (6:00-9:00) and warns against working too late (23:00-4:00).
  • AFK (Idle) & Long-Work Reminders: Checks in when you are away or reminds you to rest during long continuous typing sessions.
  • Power State Changes: Reacts immediately when power cable is connected, disconnected, or if battery drops low.

* All notifications are togglable, and you can **fully customize the exact spoken phrases** to create a highly personalized companion!

Personalize Your Mascot's Appearance

The standout feature of this app is the "Dress-up (ใใ›ใ‹ใˆ)" capability. You can register your own illustrations or community-made assets to summon your favorite characters.

From the "Image" tab in Settings, simply drag and drop or browse files for each action state to instantly dress up your desktop partner.

โœจ Recommended Image Format

  • Dimension: Square (approx. 500 ร— 500 pixels)
  • Format: Transparent PNG file (transparent background)

How to make animation frames (walking, jumping, etc.)

  1. Prepare one image of your character.
  2. Feed it to a generative AI and ask it to create a short video of the motion you want (e.g., walking, jumping). Be sure to specify a square video with a solid white background.
  3. Convert the video to an animated GIF using a tool like FreeConvert.
  4. Open the GIF in the macOS โ€œPreviewโ€ app and export the frames you need.
  5. Turn each frame into a transparent PNG. Easiest way: make a 500ร—500 px canvas in an editor like Canva, paste the frame and save it, then right-click the saved image in Finder โ†’ Quick Actions โ†’ โ€œRemove Backgroundโ€.

Empower Mascot with Gemini AI

Your mascot understands the context of your conversation and replies naturally. You can pick from 3 AI back-ends depending on your needs.

Gemini in the cloud (API key required), Ollama running locally on your Mac, or on-device Apple Intelligence (no API key; macOS 26+ / supported Macs). Switch anytime under โ€œAI back-endโ€ in Settings.

The steps below are for setting up Gemini (cloud).

๐Ÿ”‘ How to Obtain a Gemini API Key (Free Plan Available)

  1. Google AI Studio (Requires a Google Account).
  2. Click on the "Get API key" button.
  3. Create a new project and copy the generated API key.
  4. Open settings โž” "AI" tab inside the app, paste the key and hit Save.

โš ๏ธ Gemini API Availability, Age & Regional Restrictions

Google requires users to be at least 18 years old to obtain an API key via Google AI Studio and use the Gemini API. In addition, depending on your country or region of residence (e.g., European Union member states or other specific regions), the registration of API keys or the API usage itself might be restricted by Google.
For the latest official list of supported countries and regions, please refer to Google's official documentation: Gemini API Available Regions .

๐Ÿ’ก When You Don't Use AI Output (Offline Mode)

The app runs perfectly even when you don't use AI output. Click the mascot and it will speak the preset phrases you set up in advance.

Preset Phrase Rotator

In the settings "AI" tab, you can pre-register **up to 10 unique custom phrases** (supportive, motivational, or casual greetings).

When you're not using AI output, clicking the mascot **makes it speak your registered phrases (in order or at random)**. You can customize these texts to make the mascot say anything you like.

๐Ÿ”’ Secure & Private

Your Google API key is stored securely in your local macOS "Keychain" with industry-standard encryption. It is only sent directly to Google endpoints, and never shared with the developer or third parties.

Mascot Voice Customization

In the "Voice" tab in Settings, you can configure how the companion speaks and reads replies aloud.

Using "macOS Native Speech" allows you to choose from standard high-quality system TTS models (e.g. Samantha, Alex). Alternatively, you can link with local engines to enable anime-character voice synthesis.

๐Ÿ”Š Setting up VOICEVOX Integration

  1. Install the free voice synthesis software "VOICEVOX" on your Mac.
  2. Ensure VOICEVOX is running in the background.
  3. Inside our app, go to Settings โž” Voice โž” Select "VOICEVOX". The character lists will load automatically.

โš ๏ธ VOICEVOX Voice Guidelines & Disclaimer

This application communicates with local instances of "VOICEVOX" via local API calls.

When using synthesized voices of characters like "Zundamon" or "Shikoku Metan" for video distribution, SNS posting, or any commercial usage, you must **independently check, understand, and comply with the VOICEVOX and individual character Terms of Service (e.g., proper credit attribution).**

* The developer of this application assumes **no liability** for any disputes, infringements, or damages arising from your usage of external character voices.

Privacy Policy

We care deeply about your privacy. Review how your data is handled below.

1. Local Operation Standard

"My Own Mascot" is a purely local stand-alone application. The developer does not maintain any external databases or gather conversational logs, private parameters, or mascot settings. All files and configurations stay strictly inside your physical Mac.

2. Google API & AI Conversational Features

This application operates strictly on the user's local device, and no personal conversational data is ever transmitted to the developer's external servers.

However, when using the AI conversational features with a registered "Google API Key," the text data input during chats (along with the conversational context) is transmitted directly to Google AI Studio (Gemini API) servers for processing.

โš ๏ธ IMPORTANT (Confidentiality & Data Usage): Under Google AI Studio terms, any text data transmitted to Google's servers may be used by Google for product improvement and training their AI models. Therefore, we strongly advise you never to enter any personally identifiable information, confidential data, or sensitive business secrets into the chat window.

Your registered "Google API Key" is stored securely inside the macOS system "Keychain" using industry-standard encryption, and is never disclosed to the developer or any third parties. The handling and data privacy of any text data transmitted to Google are fully governed by Google's Privacy Policy (Google AI Studio Terms of Service).

3. Voice & Microphone Usage

Voice inputs from your microphone are analyzed strictly via native Apple macOS Speech Recognition frameworks to transcribe sounds into texts.

The raw voice recordings are never stored locally on disk or cached on any remote servers.

4. Conversational History

Your conversation history is saved locally on your Mac (within the app) so you can revisit it anytime. This history is never transmitted to or collected by the developer's or any third party's external servers.

You can view or delete saved history anytime from the icon at the top-right of the chat window; it is all managed on your device. (When using Gemini, chat text is sent to Google for processing, as described in section 2 above.)
